We went to the lauch of the Hamilton Pride Festival a couple of weeks ago. A happy night filled with dancing, cabarets and jokes.
It's an underground movement here in Hamilton, which is largely a rural community Being gay here is not quite as accepted as it is in the cities. But having said that, there is a gay pub opening in the next month on the main street.
In the UK Brighton and London's Pride Festivals are HUGE well attended festivals.
We had a fabulous time. Even our son mentioned that it was so unexpected how much happy loving energy there was...and the fabulous costumes. And to top it all there are many straight girls who have gay male friends, which was a happy discovery for him :-)
At 11pm we marched from the Meteor theatre behind an amazing band to Static to party the rest of the night away. Unfortunately, the whole atmosphere changed, which is such a pity. We all left soon after.
This is the city where Richard O'Brien grew up - you know - the creator of the Rocky Horror Picture Show. Hamiltonians are very proud of him. Next month the show is coming to Hamilton and we're going to see it...again. What can I say, I love the show and the movie. My other favourite movie is Priscilla Queen of the Desert.
When we lived in London we went to the Victoria Theatre to watch the Rocky Horror. Oh my god, we had so much fun. The actors were amazing, the audience joining in singing and dancing. Every so often someone would shout something and the actors would ad lib.
